Terms of Use

Last updated: 2026-10-14

These terms of use govern your use of reptiles.ge (the "Site"). By using the Site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, do not use the Site.

Purpose of the site

reptiles.ge is an atlas of the animals of Georgia and an educational resource. The Georgian version is the primary/canonical one; the English, Russian and Turkish versions are intended for a wider audience. If the language versions differ, the Georgian version prevails.

Material published on the Site includes species profiles, regional information, quizzes, safety and identification guides, news, photographs, audio material, maps, sources and contributor credits.

Educational information, not professional advice

Information published on the Site is educational and informational. It is not medical, veterinary, rescue, legal, sanitary or other professional advice.

In the event of a snakebite, poisoning, a severe allergic reaction or any other emergency, call 112 immediately and follow the instructions of the relevant professionals.

Species identification or safety information on the Site does not entitle you to touch, catch, move or disturb a wild animal. Identifying an animal seen in the wild from a photo or a short description may be incomplete or wrong.

Accuracy and changes

We try to keep information source-based, accurate and up to date. Nevertheless:

  • taxonomy, distribution, conservation status and scientific consensus may change;
  • region maps and species lists may be incomplete where sources do not name an administrative unit;
  • a photo, sound or description may not be enough for a final species identification;
  • sources or our own text may contain errors.

If you notice an error, contact us through the contact channel shown on the Site.

Intellectual property

The Site's texts, selection/structure, design, code, maps, data compilation and other original material are protected by applicable law, unless something else is stated for a specific item.

Rights to photos, audio, quotations, scientific sources, contributor material and third-party media may belong to the respective authors, photographers, publishers or other rights holders. Use of such material depends on the specific credit, source, license or the rights holder's permission. The presence of material on the Site does not mean that you have the right to reuse every photo, audio recording or piece of third-party material.

Permitted:

  • viewing and reading the Site's pages;
  • sharing a link to a specific page of the Site;
  • using a short quotation that cites the source and reptiles.ge, where this complies with applicable law;
  • using factual data with proper citation, unless the specific source or license imposes another restriction.

Prohibited without prior permission:

  • downloading/publishing photos, audio, illustrations or other third-party material when a specific license does not give you that right;
  • removing a credit, an author's name, a source or a license notice;
  • mass copying or scraping of a large part of the Site, or creating a mirror of it;
  • using material from the Site as if you were its author or an official source;
  • using the reptiles.ge name, logo or brand in a way that creates a false impression of endorsement or partnership.

Reptiles.ge license

Photos by Reptiles.ge contributors are published under the Reptiles.ge license: all rights reserved; use only with written permission.

Request permission as described on the photo use page. We forward requests to the author.

If the same photo is published elsewhere under a Creative Commons license, that copy is governed by that source's license.

Photos, locations and contributor material

If you provide us with a photo, sound, text, correction, location, coordinates or other material, you confirm that:

  • you have the right to provide such material and for us to publish it;
  • the material does not infringe anyone else's rights;
  • the credit, license, date, location and other metadata you provided are correct to the best of your knowledge.

By providing material, you grant Reptiles.ge a non-exclusive right to publish it on the Site, resize or crop it, and translate captions, credited with your name. Contributors' photos are published on the Site under the Reptiles.ge license.

If you want your name added to a photo or a photo removed, write to us: hello@reptiles.ge.

To protect wildlife and contributor privacy, sensitive locations may be generalized, hidden or not published at all.

When using the Site, the following are prohibited:

  • automated requests in a volume that harms or overloads the Site;
  • spreading malware, phishing, spam or other unlawful/harmful activity;
  • using the Site to facilitate the unlawful capture, trade, harm or disturbance of animals;

Limitation of liability

The Site is provided "as is". We do not guarantee that the Site will always be available or that species identification or informational material will be sufficient in any particular circumstance.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for damage arising from:

  • misinterpreting information published on the Site, or using it instead of professional advice;
  • catching, touching, moving wild animals or other dangerous actions;
  • using external sites, third-party content or third-party services;
  • technical disruption, data loss or temporary unavailability.

This clause does not limit liability where limiting liability is not permitted by applicable law.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated. When they are, the "last updated" date will change. We will announce significant changes on the Site. Continued use of the Site after the updated terms are published means you accept them.
